The Meadow

In my mind there is a meadow

Verdant and sweet

In its center lay a shadow

In soft serene sleep

Should it awake

I fear for your life

For all the shadow knows

Is fury and strife

What can a man do

Trapped in this way

Between the woman he loves

And the beast he keeps at bay
